Hypnosis tapes and CDs can be fun and exciting for kids!
Hypnosis tapes and CDs can be a fun, easy way to help kids work on problems while fostering feelings of comfort, hope and personal empowerment. Kids are generally more open to suggestions, less "locked in" to thinking patterns, more practiced in using imagination and generally more excited and delighted to try an adventure with hypnosis than adults.
Hypnosis tapes and CDs can be a simple, effective means to help a child deal with a variety of issues, including problems with relaxation, anxiety, stress, self esteem, self control, enuresis, encopresis, eating disorders, headaches, pain, sleeplessness, performance, stress, anger and depression.
A bit of an anxious child success strategy FYI: When anxious, sometimes people telling you that you can tune out your anxiety or turn it off can just make you feel more anxious. For example, if you are a husband and your wife is going shopping and you have a panic attack because you're not sure you have enough for the mortgage -- and she tells you to take a valium or listen to a hypnosis CD, you might get MORE anxious because she isn't listening. One important issue in using hypnosis CDs with a child is to make sure that the anxious child is first convinced that the anxiousness is the problem, and not what he or she is anxious about. In the case of the mortgage and wife, if the wife can convince the husband that he has millions in the checking account and that his anxiety is unfounded, then maybe he would decide to go along with the idea of a hypnosis CD or a Valium. If your child is convinced that he has a goofy problem that is unfounded, he will be more likely to want to work on it. Problem number 2 in all this -- using the same example above -- is that if whenever the wife goes to go shopping and the husband has a big panic attack, she spends a lot of time with him, comforting him and making him feel good and then just quickly goes shopping, buys only a few items and gets right back to him, then the idea of taking a Valium or listening to hypnosis might seem threatening to the stability of his supports and pleasures. If, on the other hand, she tells him that if he will work on reducing the anxiety and give him a reward of extra attention for increasingly letting her get some shopping done, then maybe he will be more motivated to work on reducing the anxiety. If a child, by being anxious, receives a lot of attention, then you need to set up some sort of a little behavior program that rewards improvements in decreasing anxiety with extra lavishing of attention. People of all sizes and ages operate in what feels like is their best interests in most situations.
