  Great   Expectations
What To Expect From Head-Cleaners

when you've ordered, while you wait
when you open up your recording(s)
when you listen to Head-Cleaners
when you are done listening

When you've ordered, while you wait . . .

1. Expect to receive a lengthy email within 36 hours of ordering. This email is generic but important. It will explain how to get optimum results from your Head-Cleaners hypnosis recording. The email will advise you of several things.

2. Expect to need headphones. One of the things the email will advise you about is the importance of having decent headphones for listening to the recording(s) you're waiting for. You need fairly good headphones - of a quality that is better than the headphones that accompany the most inexpensive tape or CD players. You need not spend a fortune. Something from Walmart or Kmart would be fine - just not the cheapest headphones. The very inexpensive versions of headphones seem to mangle some of the vocal tones of Head-Cleaners recordings.

3. Expect to perhaps be a bit anxious. Also of importance - and relevant prior to receiving your Head-Cleaners recording - is the issue of anxiousness about listening to a hypnosis recording. It is not unusual to be a bit anxious about the idea of hypnosis. If you are anxious about what you might be listening to or what it will be like, you can learn a great deal about the Head-Cleaners experience by checking out the samples and excerpts so you can familiarize yourself with the sound and feel of Head-Cleaners recordings. You can listen to and read a brief excerpt of pretty much any Head-Cleaners recording.

You can also request a transcript of the recording you are purchasing (or considering purchasing). Simply email your request to drj@head-cleaners.com with the word "TRANSCRIPT" in the subject line. Reading the transcript of a recording you are going to listen to will not compromise the effectiveness of your listening experience - and if reading the transcript helps you be comfortable with the experience, then listening will probably be more effective.

4. Expect it to take a bit less than a week for delivery within the US. Delivery times vary, depending on concerns about terrorist threats and whatnot. Orders are usually in the mail within a few hours of ordering on weekdays. Orders placed on Saturday, Sunday and holidays go out first thing, the next weekday.

5. Expect it to take about three weeks for a delivery outside the US. Though delivery times were half as long in recent history, new safety measures have apparently routinely slowed delivery of packages outside the US. Delivery times will vary for international orders, at least as much as domestic. When international issues are running high, packages are slowed.

6. While waiting for your recording(s), be sure to read the email.  You should also read the CAUTIONS page.  There is also information on the directions / how to use page.  You might also look over the guarantee and the copying policy.

When you open up your recording(s) . . .

1. Expect to find two different versions of your hypnosis recording(s) - one with background and one without background. When you remove the shrink wrap from a CD case, you will find two CDs inside. Both are the same with respect to the vocal aspect of the hypnosis recording, but one CD says "With Background" on it and the other says "Without Background." The two CDs are identical except for the background sound. The background sound is reminiscent of the sound of a distant airplane passing from one ear to the other. Both versions are included because some people prefer the airplane sound and other prefer no sound or prefer to be able to have their own soft music playing using another player in the room. All Head-Cleaners hypnosis recordings come in these two versions. The two versions are to allow for different preferences. There should be no difference in the effectiveness of one version over the other.

When you remove the shrink wrap from a tape cassette, you will find that the tape cassette says the name of the recording and either "With Background" on one side and "Without Background" on the other. Again, all Head-Cleaners hypnosis recordings come in these two versions. The two versions are to allow for different preferences. There should be no difference in the effectiveness of one version over the other.

When you listen to Head-Cleaners . . .

1. Expect to need the better part of an hour during which you won't be expecting to be disturbed and you won't need to pay attention to anything in particular.

2. If you listen to Side A of any cassette or CD1, expect to hear a background sound that sounds like airplane passing by in the distance from one ear to the other. Expect Side B or CD2 to have the hypnosis presented without the background sound. The hypnosis is offered in both versions - one with the background and one without - so you will have a choice.

3. Expect to hear a soothingly deep, slow, male voice speaking through one side of your headphones, and the same voice speaking through the other, saying something slightly different. (This is why headphones are essential. Each Head-Cleaners hypnosis recording is really two slightly different recordings designed to be presented together, one to the left ear and the other to the right ear. This does not refer to the background and no-background versions of each recording. Each recording, whether with background or without background, is made up of two separate recordings designed to be listened to together through headphones.)

4. Expect wordings with brief to long pauses between the various clauses. Expect, as you listen, to hear a number of comments, observations and suggestions, the wording of each being somewhat divided up into clauses and brief pauses - with longer pauses in between larger blocks of words, comments, etc. Most often, there will be a long pause - a silence - on both sides at the same time. Sometimes there may be a pause on one side (one ear) while the other side continues to talk.

5. Expect your Head-Cleaners hypnosis recording to be soothing, interesting, complex, and, at times, confusing. Do not expect your recording(s) to be just focused on relaxation. These are mentally engaging, thought-focused hypnosis recordings. Expect to find some of the wordings just a little confusing.  Expect both voices to be speaking slowly in fairly lengthy, somewhat complicated sentences that are broken up into clauses with pauses that will at times force you to pay close attention. The sentences and suggestions are meant to be somewhat confusing and very vaguely specific (or specifically vague) in order to be automatically individualized and form-fitted by the listener's own mind.

6. Expect to hear suggestions about letting yourself relax, and to whatever degree you want to relax, you will probably find yourself able to relax better than you usually do. There will be questions about what you can imagine. (Can you imagine?)

7. Expect not to find yourself being told to do anything other than let yourself relax and imagine certain things if that is in your best interests to do so.. There will be a lot of ideas suggested about ways you might actually be able to access and control usually difficult-to-consciously-control abilities.

8. Expect your attention to lapse now and then. It is common to experience momentary lapses of attention while listening to Head-Cleaners hypnosis recordings. It is common to pay attention closely for some time and then realize that you have drifted off, thinking on some tangent without - it may seem - paying attention to the hypnosis recording. Typically, this is fine. The part of the mind that focuses attention is not the part of the mind that is targetted by hypnosis. It is the part of your mind that is actively listening when you think you are actually "zoning out" or sleeping that hypnosis speaks to. That part of the mind may also be listening when focusing conscious attention, too - the point is that it is not important to be paying conscious attention to the words presented. They are being heard by another part of your mind.

9. Expect to find yourself "waking up" and thinking you fell asleep. The term "hypnosis" basically means "sleep-like state." It is not essential but it is very common that people find that after finding their attention drifting now and then, they find themselves "waking up." Usually - especially if you listen when well rested - you will not be falling asleep even if you think you do. Again, it is not the conscious, focused part of one's mind that hypnosis is addressing - it is the part of the mind that is deeper and usually called the "unconscious." Usually, if you find yourself waking up, either you will find that the recording is still continuing - or, if the recording is over, if you listen carefully you will hear the player turn off. This happens because most of the recordings suggest, at the end, that you should either allow yourself to drift off to sleep or awaken. If you find yourself awakening and then hearing the player turn off, you can be assured that you must have been carefully listening to the recording, even though you "thought" you were asleep.

10. Expect to possibly experience emotional reactions or weird bodily sensations. Though these are not typical, they are also not uncommon. As one relaxes and thinks about hard times or loved ones, it can happen that one might experience a sudden rush of delight or sadness. This usually feels very good to have experienced. Also among non-typical but not unusual experiences are strange body sensations - like feeling bodiless or feeling like you might be weightless and floating. Weird sensations just happen at times. Often these experiences are accepted at the time as interesting, no more - and it is after the hypnosis experience that the individual realizes that the feeling had been very strange.

11. Expect to feel very relaxed. Hypnosis can be very relaxing. Though one might feel energized and enlivened after hypnosis, it is often the case that one feels so relaxed as to prefer not to move for a few minutes. If this happens, enjoy. It is very healthy to profoundly relax now and then.

12. Expect to possibly feel like you fell asleep during listening. Many people feel they fall asleep during their listening to these recordings. This is usually not the case. The word "hypnosis" means sleep. It was called this because it seemed that so many people felt that they had fallen to sleep during their experience of hypnosis. Though it is also possible that you may actually fall asleep during a listening -- especially if the recording is suggesting sleep -- you will get benefit from whatever part of the tape you processed before falling to sleep. If you do feel certain you fell asleep during listening to the recording, and you didn't want to, simply listen again when you are more well rested. Always begin again from the beginning of the tape. It is not important that you consciously recall everything on the tape. The tapes are speaking to your unconscious, not your conscious mind.

13. If you have difficulty focusing during your first time listening - if you find that the first time you listen to a Head-Cleaners that you have trouble getting comfortable and paying attention to the recording, this may be your mind's defenses simply making sure it stays in full control. This is common in those who have had very negative experiences in their lives, caused by someone they should have been able to trust. It is adaptive and helpful for your mind to be cautious about when and where it lets it's guard down. Listening and maintaining a cognitive distance - staying alert and unaffected - is sometimes needed so that the mind can trust to then on the next listening allow itself to relax. In extreme cases, it might take more than one listening to be sure you can relax and still maintain control while listening. This is okay. Give yourself permission to take the time necessary to relax and benefits will then come. It can help - as mentioned above - to read the transcript of the recording so you know what will be being said.

When you are done listening . . .

1. Expect to feel very relaxed after listening to the recording(s). Hypnosis can be very relaxing. You may not feel like moving from your listening position for a few minutes.

2. Expect to feel better about whatever issues you have after each listening. You should feel a subtle or specific sense of feeling better and more hopeful about your situation with just one listening. If you had trouble focusing - if it seemed like you could not settle down and let yourself focus on what was being said - then perhaps you will need another listening to feel results, but you should feel positive results with one good listening.

3. Expect to feel better and better as you listen to the recording(s) again and again over several days. In some cases, when anxiety or other emotional issues arise from an experience or dilemma, results might be sufficient as to not need further help or listenings. In other cases - those dealing with genetically caused issues with anxiety, for example, might expect to feel better and better but never completely free of anxiousness. In either of these cases, it will seem that maximum benefits have been obtained at some point - and listenings will cease.

4. Expect to put your recordings away for a period of time, and then expect to remember them one day and to feel like you should start listening again.

5. Expect to feel better and better as you listen to the recording(s) again and again over several days.

6. Expect to consider other Head-Cleaners hypnosis recordings. If you find one of the Head-Cleaners hypnosis recordings helpful, you will probably find most of the other Head-Cleaners just as helpful. It is possible that listening to additional recordings - in a sort of rotation - might multiply the positive effects you get from listening to one.
